What we are learning in Math
Eureka Math is very different than your math classes in school or the way you learned math. Our students will be the ones who will have to solve problems and most careers will require strong problem-solving skills. To address this new challenge, we must prepare our students to be thinkers and problem solvers and really UNDERSTAND math.
We will start the year off by focusing on number concepts. Good ways to practice at home are counting objects, matching sets of objects to numbers, breaking numbers apart to see how many combinations of numbers can equal a sum, finding numbers in the world around you, and more! Practice counting by one's and ten's. Kids naturally love counting, so this is easy to turn into a game and to make a fun learning experience. Throughout kindergarten, we learn how to write numbers to 20, add and subtract fluently, and identify 2D and 3D shapes.
